ABOUT tdlPOTTERY
tdlPottery is a collection of individually handcrafted tableware and home goods created in small batches using sustainable materials and practices. Each piece is a one-of-one, a uniquely functional work of art designed to feed both body and soul.
tdlPottery’s functional pieces are both an artistic pushback against a culture of overconsumption and a celebration of the art found in everyday objects. Irregular shapes, slight distortions, and individual finishes are intentional; a deliberate indication of the humanity of the artist. Each piece is an invitation to slow down, to appreciate being over doing, and to acknowledge beauty in the mundane objects we use everyday.
tdlPottery’s figurative pieces explore the body as language, a new form of communication that transcends traditional concepts. Using clay to embody the full spectrum of human emotion, the simplified, slightly distorted figures are both a physical representation of the human mind-body connection and a means of exploring the artist’s own humanity.
“There is no greater opportunity for appreciating beauty than through its use in our daily lives”

THE ARTIST
Tamzin Lurlay is a ceramic artist living in the greater Bay Area. Returning to an artistic practice after years as an educator, she discovered an affinity with ceramics as the perfect fit for both her practical and creative natures. Initially working exclusively on the wheel creating practical tableware, Lurlay switched to hand building during the pandemic and never looked back.
She uses clay to explore the nature of being human and its intersection with imperfection. A self proclaimed “fast person”, she appreciates the slow, intentional work of hand building and values the many lessons learned through her clay work.
Her current work focuses on figurative and emotive pieces including sculptures, vases, and lamps while continuing to make limited tableware pieces.
